Huddersfield 2-0 MK Dons: Dons error gifts Huddersfield win

A defensive error from MK Dons saw Huddersfield Town score their opener before adding a late second during their Sky Bet Championship clash on Tuesday evening.

Nahki Wells scored his first goal for two months as Huddersfield Town claimed a hard-fought 2-0 home victory against Karl Robinson's men.

Dons centre-back Kyle McFadzean blundered badly to gift the Bermudian striker Town's crucial goal after he inexplicably attempted to roll the ball back but only succeeded in giving it to Wells, who drew keeper David Martin to fire home in the 58th minute, while Jamie Paterson doubled their score at the death.

It was only Huddersfield's second goal in four matches and the Town fans, starved of goal chances, booed the decision of boss Chris Powell to substitute Wells with 13 minutes still remaining.

The game was bad tempered at times and there were more yellow cards than chances as four Town players were booked along with two for the visitors and the only other clear-cut chance fell to Wells' strike partner Ishmael Miller in the opening period.

Neither side were able to impose themselves on the game, with both sets of players giving the ball away cheaply and for that reason it seemed inevitable that the game would be settled by a mistake rather than a piece of skill.

Sean Scannell showed his pace on the right in the first minute and a clipped cross with the outside of his foot was just inches too high for Miller in the box.

MK Dons hit back and striker Nicky Maynard was unlucky not to get on the end of Josh Murphy's centre and a loose pass gave Maynard another sight of goal when he spotted Jed Steer slightly off his line but his early chip was snatched out of the air by the keeper.

The only time either 'keeper was really tested came when the hard working Miller had a shot from the angle of the box.

Dean Whitehead won the ball and gave Miller the opportunity to beat his man on the left and crash in a low drive, saved at the foot of his near post by Martin.

At the other end, Town defender Joel Lynch's header fell invitingly for Carl Baker who got his half-volley all wrong.

In first-half stoppage time Scannell got up well for Jason Davidson's cross but could not direct his header on target.

Emyr Hughes fancied his chances with a free-kick in the 'D' of the penalty area but while he curled it round the wall, Martin was not troubled.

After the break Jake Forster-Caskey fired wide for the Dons but once Wells had put Huddersfield ahead there looked to be only one winner.

Two minutes after the goal a Town breakaway could have sealed the points and made for a less fraught end to the game as Wells fed Miller who went one-on-one with Martin only to lash his shot over the bar.

In the fifth minute of stoppage time Town sealed the victory when Academy striker Flo Bojaj, only on the field two minutes, set up another sub Paterson to produce a cool finish for his first goal for the club.
