Ibai Gomez scored a stunning late hat-trick to deliver a remarkable 3-2 win for rock-bottom Alaves at Girona.
The visitors had gone into the game with just six points from 13 games and looked destined for another defeat after goals from Cristhian Stuani and Juanpe put Girona in front.
Former Middlesbrough striker Stuani cut into the left side of the box to fire the opener on the hour mark and Juanpe crashed home a powerful header two minutes later to make it 2-0.
But Alaves never stopped battling and Ibai gave his team hope when he reduced the deficit with his first goal of the night after 71 minutes.
When Girona keeper Yassine Bounou was penalised for a foul in the box in the 87th minute, Ibai stepped up to coolly slot away the resulting penalty and seemingly save his side a point.
But Ibai was still not finished and he won the game for the bottom club deep into stoppage time when he latched onto a Munir El Haddadi through-ball and fired home.
