Late goals see hosts secure third place

Hosts Ghana fought back from a goal down to claim a 4-2 victory over Ivory Coast - securing third place in the Africa Cup of Nations in the process. Ghana forged ahead in the 10th minute when Portsmouth's Sulley Muntari lashed a left-footed shot which keeper Tiasse Kone could only help into the net. However, their lead failed to last with Boubacar Sanogo latching onto a fine through-ball before drilling a low shot past Birmingham keeper Richard Kingson. Things went from bad to worse for the home side when Sanogo added his second of the game from close range after Didier Drogba's initial effort was well saved.

Rewarded

Ghana were not to be denied and their reward for a improved second half display was a fine equaliser by former Arsenal man Quincy Owusu-Abeyie. He skipped past three would-be challenges before coolly slotting home past Kone on 70 minutes to level the scores. Boosted by getting back on level terms the home side moved back in front late on when Junior Agogo finished with aplomb after a fine first-time through-ball by Michael Essien. Ghana added the icing on the cake five minutes later when Haminu Dramani speculative's long-range shot fooled Kone.
