Wes Burns and Shola Ameobi were on target as Gillingham's League One promotion hopes took another dent following a 2-1 defeat to Fleetwood at Highbury.
There was barely three minutes gone when a Burns corner caught a gust and clipped a Gills head before flying past keeper Stuart Nelson and into the roof of the net.
and it was 2-0 after nine minutes when Burns' pace taking him onto a wind-assisted ball from deep and Ameobi piling in at the back post to smash home his first for the club from Burns' delivery.
Town always looked dangerous and Victor Nirennold's cross was pushed behind when it looked like dipping in at the angle.
But the visitors were handed a way back when Joe Davis was robbed by Luke Norris just outside the Fleetwood box, the forward driving low past Chris Maxwell to reduce the deficit.
Substitute Ash Hunter had chances to extend Fleetwood's lead after the break, stinging the palms of Nelson with a left-foot drive, then racing in behind the keeper, but unable to find the angle to shoot.
But the best chance came at the other end, Brennan Dickenson's cross deflected into the path of Elliott List but he was unable to apply a touch six yards out.
