A much-changed England suffered defeat at Wembley as the Netherlands came from behind to win 2-1 on Tuesday.
Only three players who started in the 3-2 victory over Germany were again named in the XI against the Dutch, but Jamie Vardy followed up his goal in Berlin by putting England ahead in the 41st minute.
The Netherlands levelled after the break as Danny Rose was penalised for handling a cross and Vincent Janssen dispatched the spot-kick.
They grabbed the winner in the 77th minute as Janssen won a challenge with Phil Jagielka and crossed to the back post for Luciano Narsingh to finish.
England protested that Janssen should have been penalised for fouling Jagielka but they could not get back into the match despite the introductions of Harry Kane and Dele Alli.
The friendly was England's last match before Roy Hodgson names his squad for Euro 2016 on May 12 and he opted to ring the changes from the win in Berlin.
Only Adam Lallana, Chris Smalling and Rose kept their places as Leicester's Danny Drinkwater made his debut and Vardy, Ross Barkley and Daniel Sturridge started.
The much-changed side took a while to get going and it was Janssen who had the first shot of the match when he hit a low effort at Fraser Forster.
That was just after a minute's applause for Dutch legend Johan Cruyff, who died last week aged 68.
Newcastle's Georginio Wijnaldium then forced Forster to palm away a curling shot before England started to raise the tempo.
Sturridge had a shot blocked from Rose's cut-back, Stones saw a goal-bound effort cleared and Barkley fired narrowly wide.
They got the breakthrough late in the half after a good move that saw Lallana play in Walker, who pulled across for Vardy to finish.
England looked to build on their advantage after the break as Jeroen Zoet saved from Sturridge, and Lallana curled wide after an impressive run forward by Barkley.
However, after Forster saved from Janssen after John Stones' slip, the Dutch were awarded a penalty when Rose was penalised for handling a cross.
Janssen made no mistake from the spot as he sent Forster the wrong way.
Hodgson introduced Theo Walcott on the hour mark for Sturridge but it was Vardy who looked England's brightest player, testing Zoet with a shot from outside the box.
Daley Blind then blocked from Walcott before the Dutch took the lead after 77 minutes in somewhat controversial fashion.
England were annoyed that Janssen was not penalised for knocking Jagielka off the ball, but the referee allowed play to continue and the AZ Alkmaar forward crossed for Narsingh to finish.
Substitute Harry Kane went closest to equalising for England when he shot wide.
