Primera Liga: Deportivo La Coruna end their winless run with a 3-0 home win over Valencia.
Sunday 19 October 2014 23:18, UK
Deportivo La Coruna ended their winless run in style with a 3-0 home win over high-flying Valencia.
Victor Fernandez's men had taken just four points from their first seven La Liga matches, losing four games in a row, while the visitors had not been beaten, winning six already.
The Riazor, though, was celebrating again as an own goal from Valencia defender Jose Gaya put the home side ahead on 36 minutes, with midfielder Lucas Perez adding a second just before the break.
Substitute Jose Toche wrapped things up late in the second half to move Depor out of the bottom three and leave Valencia shellshocked, having lost ground on the leaders, with both Barcelona and Real Madrid - now up to second place - winning on Saturday.
It had been a positive start by the home side, with Ivan Cavaleiro twice testing Valencia goalkeeper Yoel during the early stages.

Antonio Barragan offered some threat for the visitors before, on 22 minutes, Depor defender Pablo Insua headed over from close range.
Valencia forward Rodrigo Moreno shot wide from 25 yards, before the home side went ahead.
Bosnia-Herzegovina midfielder Haris Medunjanin curled a free-kick against the crossbar, which was put out for a corner. He delivered the ball into the penalty area again, which was turned into the roof of the Valencia net by the unfortunate Gaya.
Depor doubled their lead on 43 minutes, when Cavaleiro headed down for Perez to drill the ball in.
Valencia boss Nuno made two changes for the second half, with striker Pablo Piatti replaced by Carles Gil and Sofiane Feghouli coming on for midfielder Augusto Filipe Souza.
Feghouli had a shot blocked, and Depor goalkeeper Fabricio saved from Rodrigo before a speculative overhead kick by Valencia midfielder Dani Parejo was wide.
Depor ended any hopes of a Valencia comeback when, with 12 minutes left, Toche slotted home from the edge of the penalty area to complete an impressive - and much-needed - victory for the promoted side.
