Crewe 1-1 Exeter: Chuma Anene earns point for Railwaymen
Saturday 5 October 2019 18:52, UK
Norwegian striker Chuma Anene came off the bench to earn Crewe a 1-1 draw with Exeter in the top-of-the-table clash in Sky Bet League Two.
Anene, on loan from FC Midtjylland, fired home into the corner after 76 minutes to cancel out Dean Moxey's early opener as Crewe fought back against the impressive Grecians.
Matt Taylor's side were ahead after just two minutes when Nicky Law delivered to the back post where veteran defender Moxey was on hand to thrash the ball into the roof of the net.
Exeter looked quicker and slicker than their hosts in the first half and could have added to their lead. Ryan Bowman lashed over from 10 yards when well placed and Lee Martin was denied by Will Jaaskelainen who dived to palm away a curled right-footed effort.
Martin continued to pose a threat after the restart with Jaaskelainen again doing well to keep out a thumping strike from 25 yards.

Exeter had looked untroubled for an hour with Moxey and Tom Parkes marshalling their backline in a miserly fashion. But they were fortunate when Harry Pickering's low drive ricocheted across the face of goal.
Crewe freshened their attack by introducing Daniel Powell and Anene and it was the signal for a revival. After Powell forced a reaction save from Lewis Ward, big frontman Anene deservedly levelled when collecting Charlie Kirk's cross before turning and firing the loose ball into the corner.
The draw saw both clubs drop a place with Exeter surrendering top spot to Forest Green and Crewe dropping back to fourth.
