Rangers claim point at lowly Cowdenbeath in Scottish Championship

A difficult week for Rangers ended with an uninspiring 0-0 draw at Central Park against lowly Cowdenbeath who last week conceded 10 goals in Edinburgh.

The closest either side came to scoring was when Rangers veteran Lee McCulloch struck the bar on the stroke of half-time.

Although the Gers dominated both possession and chances created, they were unable to tame the strong winds which spoilt the game as a contest.

Rangers had hoped to put a distracting week behind them by claiming three points. On Friday, the club had held an EGM which led to wholesale changes on the Ibrox board, but the players were unable to sweep aside the relegation-threatened hosts who last beat Rangers in 1949.

In front of Dave King and the club's new directors, Nicky Clark had the first effort on goal in the third minute, firing narrowly wide from just outside the box.

Rangers controlled the first half with Kenny Miller, McCulloch and Darren McGregor all coming close more than once, while Clark had two more good opportunities before the break.

The Blue Brazil performed better after the break, with John Armstrong and Colin Nish both missing the target with headers inside the box.

The visitors continued to press forward with Jon Daly, Kris Boyd and Clark having opportunities along with Marius Zaliukas who headed wide six minutes from time.

The result leaves Rangers 23 points adrift of leaders Hearts who reached double figures against the same opposition at Tynecastle eight days ago.
