Chievo and Torino shared the spoils in an uneventful 0-0 draw in Verona on Tuesday afternoon.

The hosts were the better side but could not make the most of their chances and had to settle for a point.

The result at the Marc' Antonio Bentegodi stadium lifted Chievo up to 16th place, five points clear of the drop zone.

Meanwhile, Torino, who halted a six-match winless run in Serie A with a 2-1 win over Genoa in their last game of 2014, are two places above Chievo.

Toro went into the encounter looking for their first win on the road since beating Cagliari on September 24 but it was the home side that had the better start.

Chievo carved out the first chance in the 10th minute but Dario Dainelli's shot from inside the box was saved by visiting goalkeeper Daniele Padelli.

At the other end, Giuseppe Vives fed Alexander Farnerud in the area and his attempt was kept out by Chievo keeper Albano Bizarri.

Chievo pressed forward and twice had the chance to break the deadlock before the interval.

However, Perparim Hetemaj's right-footed volley did not trouble Padelli before the visiting keeper made a good save from Alberto Paloschi's close-range attempt as the game remained scoreless.

Both sides struggled to put a good move together after the re-start and the fans had to wait until the hour mark for the first chance of the second half.

On that occasion, Padelli had to fully stretch to clear Riccardo Meggiorini's header from Nicolas Frey's cross.

Farnerud almost punished Chievo with a minute left but his bullet strike from 30 yards was saved by Bizarri.
