Chesterfield ended a run of four defeats with a convincing 3-0 win over Fleetwood, who had midfielder Antoni Sarcevic sent off.
Caolan Lavery and Sam Hird put Chesterfield ahead before Sarcevic was dismissed, while Alexander followed shortly after Sam Morsy had made it 3-0 to the hosts. Fleetwood had started well with David Ball's header saved by goalkeeper Tommy Lee, who made another good save when Sarcevic shot from the edge of the penalty area. But after Ollie banks had hit the crossbar, Chesterfield went ahead in the 31st minute when Gboly Ariyibi cut the ball back for Lavery to score from 12 yards. Fleetwood's hopes took a double blow when Hird bundled in the rebound after goalkeeper Chris Maxwell had parried Ian Evatt's header in the 42nd minute and Sarcevic was shown two yellow cards for dissent in the space of 20 seconds. The visitors were finished off in the 63rd minute when Ariyibi picked out Morsy to drive in a low shot and Fleetwood's miserable afternoon was complete when Alexander was banished from the dug out.
