Oldham Athletic's play-off hopes are dented in goalless draw with Cheltenham
Friday 19 April 2019 19:34, UK
Cheltenham and Oldham played out a 0-0 draw to severely dent the Latics' outside chance of a late play-off charge in Sky Bet League Two.
The home side threatened early on with Luke Varney heading a chance over the bar and George Lloyd's glancing effort just clearing the far post after Chris Hussey's cross.
Oldham's Jose Baxter failed to hit the target after hesitation from Scott Flinders on the edge of his penalty area.
Flinders saved from Baxter in the 25th minute and Hussey's well-timed challenge denied Oladapo Afolayan after he reached a long ball.
Tom Hamer blocked a volley from Hussey and Cheltenham had a goal disallowed before the break, with Charlie Raglan adjudged to have committed a foul before powering in Hussey's corner in the 38th minute.
Flinders turned a low free-kick from Mohamed Maouche around the post in the 57th minute and at the other end, Daniel Iverson blocked well to deny Kevin Dawson, who was through one-on-one three minutes later.
Mohamed Sylla cleared Will Boyle's header from Hussey's corner away from the six-yard box and Iversen comfortably saved a low effort from Varney as neither side could find a breakthrough.
