Celtic 2-0 Hearts: Premiership champions finish season unbeaten

Celtic have become the first team to finish a Scottish Premiership season unbeaten after defeating Hearts 2-0 in their final fixture.

Brendan Rodgers' record-breaking team were dominant throughout and second-half goals from Leigh Griffiths and Stuart Armstrong ensured a day of celebration at Celtic Park went with a swing.

Celtic becamethe first team in 118 years to complete a season undefeated in Scotland's top division and sealed a record points haul of 106.

The Glasgow club won 34 of their 38 league games, drawing the other four, triumphed in the League Cup earlier in the season, and will bid to land a treble when they face Aberdeen next Saturday in the Scottish Cup final.

Celtic bossed the opening 45 minutes against Hearts but were unable to find a breakthrough.

Dedryck Boyata came closest, meeting a left-wing corner with a close-range shot which Hearts keeper Viktor Noring did really well to block with his legs.

Noring was also called upon to palm away a dangerous cross from Patrick Roberts, who had reached the by-line after a delightful piece of skill.

But the Hearts keeper was not tested much otherwise, Leigh Griffiths putting a free-kick into the side-netting and heading over the bar.

Stuart Armstrong and Callum McGregor also shot over the top from the edge of the area, while Hearts were kept very quiet at the other end, an Alexandros Tziolis free-kick which flew just over proving their best effort.

A second-half onslaught from Celtic was on the cards and it took them only five minutes to finally break the deadlock once play had resumed.

Roberts was the architect, making progress down the right before floating over a glorious cross which Griffiths nodded into the net from close range.

The same duo were soon combining again, Roberts chipping another nice pass into Griffiths, but this time the forward shot into the side netting.

Scott Brown was next to try his luck, powering in a low shot after the ball had bounced around in the area which Noring did well to save.

Bjorn Johnsen shot straight at Gordon at the over end but it was one-way traffic in the main and the jubilant Celtic fans had a second goal to celebrate in the 76th minute.

Griffiths turned creator and did really well, controlling a long ball on his chest before sending in a low cross which Jamie Brandon failed to clear, allowing Armstrong to slam the ball into the net.

That was Celtic's 106th goal of the Premiership season, another new record, but they took their feet off the gas after that and it was Hearts who threatened in the closing stages.

Celtic defender Kolo Toure had come off the bench to join the fun and he threw himself in front of a goal-bound Malaury Martin shot, before Johnsen headed a post against a corner.

Martin then tried his luck again with a fine volley but Gordon saved smartly, as the hosts finished their historic campaign with a clean sheet and a record title-winning margin of 30 points.
