Gary Neville's new side Valencia beat third-tier Barakaldo 3-1 in their Copa del Rey round of 32 first leg tie.
Phil Neville assisted interim manager Voro in Baraklado, and made six changes from the side beaten 1-0 by Sevilla at the weekend, a result that ultimately cost Nuno his job.
But they were behind early on to the Segunda B side, Alain Arroyo scoring in the 16th minute, but were level three minutes later through Joao Canecelo.
Substitute Jose Gaya put Valencia ahead in the second half, before Daniel Parejo wrapped up the first-leg win with a last minute penalty following Jaume Valens Cardell's sending off.
Voro will be in charge for Saturday's La Liga clash at home to Barcelona, before Neville takes over for the first time in the must-win Champions League group stage match against Lyon at the Mestalla.
