Jake Reeves hit a last-gasp wonder goal to help AFC Wimbledon to their first win in six games as York went down 2-1 at Kingsmeadow.
York headed into the break in the lead thanks to captain Russell Penn, but on 68 minutes the home side levelled as Rhys Murphy bundled home.
The game looked to be heading for a draw only for Reeves to revive Wimbledon's Sky Bet League Two promotion challenge in the third minute of added time with a 30-yard volley.
Lyle Taylor shot tamely at Scott Flinders in the first half and the Dons were made to pay for their wastefulness in front of goal seven minutes before half-time.
Vadaine Oliver's 25-yard shot was well blocked, but the rebound fell to Penn who calmly passed the ball into the bottom corner.
Wimbledon drew level 20 minutes into a quiet second half when Dannie Bulman ran to the byline and smashed the ball across the face of goal, which was bundled home by Murphy.
And, right at the death, Reeves brought the ball down on his chest before firing in a goal worthy of winning any game.
