Verdict

In the absence of Glass Harmonium, Sir Michael Stoute now has to rely on fellow Royal Ascot scorer Perfect Stride in the Strensall, but South African star RUSSIAN SAGE is preferred. The Stoute camp will be confident that they have the edge over Spring Of Fame, who was put firmly in his place by Glass Harmonium at the Royal Meeting. The latter has to be a doubtful stayer if this is a truly run contest, but there are no such concerns over the selection. Perfect Class took the Wolferton Handicap and is another who is a worthy contestant in this sphere. There is little to pick holes in given that the Ascot run was his first at beyond a mile and as one who is unexposed he cannot be ruled out with confidence. Ryan Moore rode him that day but chose to snub him for this until his stablemate¿s defection, so confidence is clearly not as high where he is concerned. Russian Sage has been superb in his home land and trainer Mike De Kock has an enviable record when raiding these shores. On that basis alone the five-year-old is respected, and although there are perhaps some doubts over the ground he has got plenty of top drawer form in the context of this race and should be up to the task. Forgotten Voice is interesting now stepped up beyond a mile after being thrashed in the Sussex Stakes. He acts on this going and improvement would be no surprise. Lord Admiral switches from blinkers to a visor now and is well worth his place in the line-up, though Palavicini has plenty to find and Russian Sage looks the wise choice.
