Normandy Barriere wouldn’t be winning out of turn but the handicapper is reluctant to lessen his grip. Several powerful northern yards have multiple entries and Flying Pursuit may prove the pick of Tim Easterby’s trio ahead of Staxton. He held off stablemate Golden Apollo here in July, with Summerghand third and Tommy Taylor fifth, and was first home in the group on the far side when third in last month’s Ayr Gold Cup – many of today’s rivals were behind that day, though some would not have been suited by the desperate conditions. TERUNTUM STAR, one of five Kevin Ryan runners, was one of that latter group and he won this last year off a pound higher mark so heads the short-list. Al Qahwa was second in the Silver Cup at Ayr and Lake Volta could be interesting dropping down in distance as he’s not short of pace. Shared Equity isn’t looking badly treated and won on his only previous visit here.
