      Verdict

      MANCINI ran much better over 2m4f in the Ascot Stakes then his finishing position suggests and Jonathan Portman’s charge had found only subsequent Northumberland Plate winner Carwennan too good over track and trip before that. A repeat of that form back on today’s fast ground should see him go very close. Makawee won over 1m6f at Wetherby in good style earlier but is 10lb higher attempting 2m for the first time while recent Kempton runner-up Al Kout has yet to win on Turf but has gone close to doing so in the past. Michael's Mount won over 2m1f at Pontefract last month but would prefer some cut in the ground while fast going is also a worry for Flintrock. My Reward has not been at his best this year but has tumbled down the weights as a consequence and The Resdev Way is running from out of the handicap.
