In depth

Verdict

Any newcomer from the Aiden O'Brien camp has to be respected, so Amsterdam has to be considered here, as does the Godolphin debutante Crimson Sun, but we will go with experience here and give Fiefdom the vote. Mark Johnston's colt looked in need of the extra furlong when putting in his best work at the end of the Nottingham race won by Norcroft. He will have learnt a lot from that outing and can take this decent prize. Amsterdam is a colt by Danehill out of a Kris mare and will certainly know his job first time up. A mile will be his best trip in time but he looks set to figure in the finish here today. Crimson Sun is certainly bred in the purple the sire is Danzig and the mare is Crimplene who was a top class performer winning the Irish 1,000 Guineas, Coronation and Nassau Stakes as a three-year-old. Of the others with form Wilko should improve for his debut third, but Fiefdom looks to have the best credentials and is taken to land first prize.
