Like so many typical of his yard, FINAL ROCK has improved for the step up in distance and shrugged off a penalty for an earlier win at Chepstow to win by six lengths over 1m2f at Bath last time. Sir Mark Prescott’s charge has a 14lb hike in the weights to contend with but today’s opposition looks only modest with Swilly Sunset the biggest threat. The latter drops in class after a better effort at Windsor but Voluminous has gone the wrong way since her reappearance while Medalla De Oro and Astrobreeze continue to struggle.
Swilly Sunset 11-1 (9-0) Tracked leaders on outside, headway over 2f out, stayed on inside final furlong, went 2nd towards finish, never able to challenge, 2nd of 6, 3/4l behind Twenty Times (9-7) at Windsor 1m 2f hcp (4) gf in Jul.
Medalla De Oro 8-1 (9-4) Led, ridden and headed over 3f out, soon weakened, last of 13, dist behind Belisa (9-6) at Newcastle 1m 4f hcp (4) pol in Jun.
Voluminous 4-1 (9-1) Slowly into stride, behind, never dangerous, 7th of 10, 15 1/2l behind Temasek Star (9-3) at Wolverhampton 1m 4f hcp (5) pol in Jul.
Final Rock 2-11fav (9-0) Led 2f, led again over 2f out, hard ridden over 1f out, stayed on, won at Bath 1m 2f hcp (6) fm in Jul beating Polkadot Princess (8-13) by 6l, 5 ran.
Astrobreeze 25-1 (9-9) In touch, keen, weakening when hampered well over 1f out, eased, last of 12, 33 1/2l behind Mythological (9-4) at Beverley 1m 4f hcp (6) gf in May.
