In depth

Verdict

A Sir Mark Prescott-trained horse, rated only 58 and stepping up in trip at Yarmouth, are enough clues to give Lawrence Of Arabia the vote over Send In Tank and Riyadh, who are expected to put up the most resistance out of the rest. That said, Sonoma is also respected and it will be interesting to note how she acts on the ground. The market will give a good indication towards the expectations in this area and she is one to post a look out for early. Riyadh is also given plenty of respect, as he is a tough campaigner that has more ability than his wins to runs ratio would have you believe. However, his tendency to find one better handicapped has blighted his campaign this season and he is again passed over for win only purposes. Send In Tank, who ran up a nice little sequence for Stuart Williams at the start of the year, has yet to prove his effectiveness on turf and this may be a precursor to a winter campaign back on the all weather. Nevertheless, money arriving to support his claims will be dangerous to ignore and the hint will prove to tempting for many. This should help ensure a fair price about Lawrence Of Arabia, who has been a little frustrating up to date. However, a look at his pedigree tells you that he is out of a half-sister to Arc winner Montjeu and he surely has more to offer than he has shown to date. The list of Prescott horses that have won races at this track with similar profiles is as long as they come. And Lawrence Of Arabia can become the latest handicap snip to outstay his rivals at a course his trainer has targeted for plenty of fun over the years.
