Verdict

This is easier than most of the targets set for the lightly raced Atum Re over the last year and he is selected in preference to Absolut Power, Shapiro and Kristoffersen. The last named, like a few of the rest, is in good form and looks sure to attract a fair bit of interest from the betting ring. He has shown a good attitude in both his last two starts and has obviously thrived since he joined his current yard. However, this is a tougher ask of him and he may struggle from a 5lb higher mark. Shapiro was bred to make his mark on the Flat but obviously did not live up to expectations. Still, he has already won over hurdles and is dangerous to dismiss with Tony McCoy doing the steering. The step up in trip and cut in the ground will seen him in a better light today and he is no forlorn hope for making the frame. Absolut Power has held his form well and fully deserved to break his duck last time out. Nevertheless, like a few of the rest, he has more to do in this company and needs everything to drop right for him. Therefore, it can be worth chancing a small investment in Atum Re on these terms. The gelding, who is rated 18lb lower over hurdles than he is over fences, is undoubtedly well treated for his first start for Paul Nicholls. And he looks to have been found a good opening to boost his confidence for the up and coming jumps campaign.
