Another big field, and yet another case of wheat and chaff, with Mallory and Xellance the main contenders ahead of Princess Claudia, and in our view the first-named looks the part. Mallory has been part of trainer Tom George's purple patch as the stable continue to fire in winners left, right and centre. The nine-year-old is in fact chasing a hat-trick after victories at Newcastle and Wincanton. he 'has got topweight here but is expected to prevail again before being put over fences. That has been the plan for some time and as continued success will see him take a further rise up the handicap, a chasing career beckons. before then though he will make a bold bid to stave off the challenge of the former Mark Johnston inmate Xellance, who was a beaten favourite at Ludlow due to some less than fluent hurdling. Richard Johnson, who rode him to victory at Hereford the time before, replaces Tony McCoy in the saddle. Princess Claudia has shown enough to warrant a place without being good enough to trouble the front two in the betting.
