In depth

Verdict

Another Native gets a narrow vote Caribou, with Nice Try and Briery Fox just a couple more to mention. There is quite a fair turnout for the day's feature race, and it is hoped that Another Native will be fit enough to do himself justice. Charlie Mann's eight-year-old is seen as a potential Grand National horse by his trainer who has been impressed with his jumping since the son of Be My Native came over from Ireland. He certainly did nothing to dispel that theory when hacking up at Wetherby last March, and although he will find life a bit tougher this term, is still one to follow. Caribou loves soft ground and being a French-bred, has it in his blood to go chasing early, so has to be kept on the right side, while Nice Try got round Sandown with no problems when scoring over fences last March so has ability. Briery Fox will find this trip on the short side, and has to give nearly a stone away to the selection Another Native who should be followed as the season progresses.
