Verdict

Independence ran well on first start for the Dr Newland team when going down by just half a length at Plumpton, although the winner did little for the form next time. However, the yard has a splendid record with horses joining from another stable and he should be in the mix as he seeks a first hurdling success. Ranco usually runs his race and will be grateful to the handicapper for dropping him a couple of pounds, but hasn't been seen since November and the market may tell the story about his chance. MASTERDREAM (NAP) looks a decent play though after shaping nicely last month on the Flat after a break and should be cherry-ripe for this return to hurdling. He's gone well here in the past and remains relatively unexposed compared to his rivals. Hillsin is an each-way option.
