GREAT MATES should have the scope to win a race of this nature with Rappel D'Estruval and Piper Royal amongst the likelier dangers. The last named made his debut in a decent bumper at Ascot when the stable second string but he failed to build on that when tried over hurdles next time although it's possible that the soft ground may have been against him. In any respect, he has something to prove as a result as does Rappel D'Estruval who showed a modicum of ability on his first three starts but hasn't gone on the last twice; the quicker ground may also help him. Our Guardian Angel is another that may fare better now that she encounters a faster surface and they should certainly suit the former Henry Cecil inmate Unleashed who made the frame in a Listed race at Pontefract last term. Great Mates has shown little sign of living up to his breeding but the gelded half-brother of Racing Demon was entitled to need his run at Newton Abbot last time on debut over hurdles and the Stratford bumper winner is given another chance.
