Verdict

DEBDENE BANK is taken to land the opener, while Augustus John and Barodine are among the dangers. In the first instance this is not a race to get heavily involved in, but Debdene Bank represents a yard whose runners are going well, and she has made the frame in five of her last six races. She goes well at this track, stays this far, and was not stopping when runner-up over an inadequate 1m 4f at Lingfield last time so we will side with her. Augustus John has a course and distance win to his name and races from 1lb lower than when successful, so he has claims, especially as he remains in reasonable form, while Prince Charlemagne is in-form but would prefer this to be at either Kempton or Lingfield and is not a certain stayer. Conversely, Baltimore Patriot will relish this trip and goes well at the track, so despite his rising mark for defeats he could still get heavily involved. Barodine is another major player, being just 1lb higher than when runner-up over course and distance in July, and he should not be far away, but preference is for Debdene Bank.
