Verdict
Nod's Star will justifiably start favourite here after some good recent form but we will chance Saintly Thoughts to come back and win on his return from a long absence, while Countback and Dream River can also go well. Saintly Thoughts comes from the in-form yard of Ron Hodges and despite his advancing years he will have his enthusiasm rekindled after a long absence from the track. A quirky sort, he has won over c&d from this sort of mark in the past, has gone well when fresh and represents a sporting selection at much better value in the market than the 'jolly'. Nod's Star has youth and current form on his side, but has beaten fair and square last time and maybe the Kempton win he enjoyed prior to that showed us the extent of his abilities. He is no good thing here, and Countback can give him plenty to do now that he is dropping in the weights, while Dream River is of interest on her all weather debut and any market confidence may prove significant. Not a great contest then and we will suggest a small play on the veteran Saintly Thoughts
