A tricky looking nursery but the percentage call looks to be VILNIUS and we'll take her to come home in front ahead of Future Regime and Point To Prove. Mick Channon's filly has had a busy first season but showed no signs of fatigue when landing a handicap over this trip at Nottingham last time. That success prompted a 3lb rise in the handicap but that may not be enough to stop the follow-up here with the excellent Chris Catlin taking the ride. The selection has raced exclusively at this trip and seems adaptable in terms of tactics, something which should provide options for the jockey from a middle draw in stall eight. In contrast to the selection Patrick Morris' Future Regime remains unexposed having had just three career starts to date, the last of which coming here over a furlong further. Today's step back in distance should suit the daughter of Xaar who is bred to sprint and an opening handicap mark of 56 doesn't seem insurmountable particularly after that solid effort here last time behind higher rated rivals. Stall four is a decent draw and we can expect to see this filly prominent early on as a horse who has run creditably over six furlongs but does appear to have the speed for this trip. Point To Prove remains a maiden after 11 career starts but has one or two efforts that would entitle him to run well here off a rating of 59. Amy Weaver's colt ran with credit in maidens and was allotted a stiff enough mark of 74 on the back of those efforts but the colt should be much more at home against these rivals off over a stone lower. Connections will surely be disappointed if this one cannot take a hand in the finish with Hayley Turner booked especially in light of those decent maiden performances, all of which came over today's trip of five furlongs. In a race where plenty can be given some sort of chance the next best may be Caol Ila, James Given's filly having run with credit last time off a 4lb higher mark. The horse didn't cut much ice in maidens, two of which came over course and distance, but that is firmly reflected in this mark of 54 and there should be scope for some improvement from this lightly raced sort. Thewinnatakesitall merits a mention as the top rated horse, particularly after a good run behind an in-form animal at Southwell last time, but Vilnius is the one with the most solid claims and she rates a solid selection.
