In depth

Verdict

Ruffie is preferred to Christmas Player and Oporto. The ex-Richard Hannon filly landed a sizeable gamble for the Gay Kelleway yard and while the handicapper has had his say - the filly gets on well with Jimmy Quinn's bustling style of riding and we will support her here again. Christmas Player won a desperate maiden at the track and does not appear to possess much in the way of pace. It is interesting that the trainer had been running her over further as she appears much more of a staying type than a speed horse. Oporto ran very green on three starts and is at least open to some improvement on handicap bow. Emilion looks a staying type if her recent Beverley run is anything to go by and should be running on when others have cried enough. The market may provide most clues but Ruffie could nick this contest in what essentially looks to be a race full of staying types.
