In depth

Verdict

Hardly a maiden to get carried away with but the nomination goes to Grand Assault ahead of Elizabeth Spirit and Belinda Rose. The selection ran his best rate to date when second in a handicap at Lingfield. That was his first run of the season and as he seems to have improved from three to four, he should go well. Chocolate Sands should show up better than on his debut as he looks sure to have improved for the experience, whilst the Peter Grayson-trained duo need respect but the stable are not in great form at present. The Carpet Man ran with more promise last time but has been exposed as moderate, so Elizabeth Spirit may cause more problems. She is unexposed after just two runs and has hinted at ability thus far. A weak finale, and it should in reality be at least three-to-one the field, however Grand Assault is just the token selection.
