        Verdict

        Magical Wit was good value for her win in what looked a decent race for its grade last time and is taken to defy her 6lb penalty at the main expense of Befriend and Showtime Annie. The last mentioned has slipped to a very favourable mark but Alan Bailey's filly has yet to show that she is as effective on this surface as on turf and is probably best watched. Paul Blockley's Befriend is unexposed after just four starts and has been freshened up by a break since the latest of them but faces no easy task giving weight away all round on her debut in this grade. Miss Monica has been given a chance by the handicapper and is another worthy of a mention along with Coppington Flyer, who gave every indication last time that this trip should suit. Magical Wit was fulfilling earlier promise since joining Vince Smith when successful in a banded stake race over course and distance last time though and with more to come she is taken to defy that 6lb penalty.
