Verdict

MISTER NEW YORK is put forward ahead of more obvious candidates such as Wing Play and Idesia. Noel Chance's colt was in fine fettle at the start of the year, winning here and at Lingfield before being beaten by less than 7 lengths behind Paco Boy in a Listed race at the latter track. He has been struggling for form since then but is handicapped accordingly and may be worth chancing with George Baker taking over in the saddle for the first time. Wing Play is probably the one to beat as Hughie Morrison's colt is progressing nicely since being fitted with cheekpieces. His recent performances have been over longer trips than this though and this distance is by no means certain to suit. Idesia clearly shows up well at home as she has been well supported on more than one occasion this season. She tries this trip for the first time but may well be suited by it as she was given a positive ride at Bath last time and a repeat of that could see her go close. She's come up short before though so we're content to take her on with Mister New York.
