    Verdict

Tommy Smith opened his account for new connections at Ponefract last month and has to be respected but lack of previous form on this surface is a major concern and preference is for Val de Maal, who gets the vote ahead of Labelled With Love. The last mentioned was all out to land a handicap on Lingfield's turf course last month and while clearly in form, faces no easy task off his new mark back on the Polytrack. Top weight Prince of Gold is held by the selection on running last time and of more interest may be Christine Dunnett's Kennington, who has been running with some consistency of late and is not badly treated on the pick of his form on the all-weather. Riquewihr is fairly treated on turf form and could be of interest, particularly if the market speaks in his favour. St Ivian has claims on the pick of his form but may ideally want further, while Old Bailey is probably better on the Fibresand. The vote then goes to Val de Maal, who has been running to a decent level of form, including over course and distance last time, and is taken to fulfill that promise.
