Favourites have a very good record in what looks an open handicap. Andrew Balding has won it twice in recent years so the lightly-raced Brandon Castle should be noted on his first start over what should be his best trip. Stolen Story is another whose pedigree suggests he's been racing over trips too short while Leoncavallo has a victory over the distance to his credit. Kitten's Red has a very smart middle-distance pedigree and last season's experience shouldn't be lost on him, a remark that also applies to Atalan, who makes his handicap debut from a very lowly mark. CALLENDULA (NAP) has only raced on an artificial surface but there's no reason why she shouldn't act on Turf and she gave notice of an imminent victory when a close third at Wolverhampton last time.
