Verdict

A number of leading stables are represented in what should prove a most informative event. Sir Michael Stoute's Researched gave little encouragment on his sole outing as a juvenile but faced no easy task in useful company and this represents a big drop in class. He will appreciate the step up in trip being out of a Prix du Cadran winner and holds a Derby engagement. Charley Bates is a little more exposed but displayed a consistent level of form to be placed in all three starts in useful maiden company last term. However, he looks a tricky ride (has hung and carries head awkwardly) and may not be one to rely upon implicitly. Golden Sonata is related to French Derby hero Hernando and is another who can improve on last year's outing behind Gossamer while Ocean Star shaped as though this longer trip would suit when a strong finishing third at Leicester earlier in the month. Newcomer and Derby entrant Kataholic may go well at a big price but the vote goes to the stoutly-bred Dimple Chad who is capable of stepping up on his sole previous start now that he has an opportunity to race over a more suitable trip.
