A tight contest in which all are respected. Cartier looked a likely winner at Newmarket the last day but didn't see it out when still not looking quite the finished article. As a son of Montjeu, he can be expected to progress throughout his three-year-old career and should go well under similar conditions. However, EDGE OF HEAVEN looked a filly on the improve when quickening clear in impressive fashion last time and is hard to oppose on that visual evidence despite being up 16lb for her two successes. Starlit Cantata and First Experience are both reliable performers and are preferred in that order but arguably have less scope for improvement than the three-year-olds, of whom recent maiden winner Rosslare also merits a mention.
Starlit Cantata 8-1 (8-12) Tracked leader, led over 2f out, strongly challenged entering final furlong, headed post, 2nd of 6, ns behind Ogbourne Downs (8-12) at Bath 1m hcp 0-90 (3) gd in Jun.
Edge Of Heaven 5-2fav (9-4) Raced keenly tracking leaders, challenged 2f out, soon 2nd, ridden to lead over 1f out, stayed on well to go clear inside final furlong, won at Leicester 1m fll hcp (5) gf in Jun beating Gleneely Girl (8-11) by 4 1/2l, 9 ran.
Perfect Orange 14-1 (8-13) Tracked leader, led 5f out, ridden and headed 2f out, weakened final furlong, last of 5, 13l behind Greatest Journey (8-8) at Lingfield 1m (3) pol in Dec.
First Experience 20-1 (9-5) Tracked leaders, effort over 1f out, unable to quicken inside final furlong, 3rd of 14, 3 1/2l behind Anya (10-0) at Kempton 1m hcp 0-85 (4) pol in Jun.
Cartier (IRE) 7-4fav (8-2) Held up towards rear, headway over 2f out, led entering final furlong, headed towards finish, lost 2nd place and no extra near finish, 3rd of 7, 1l behind No Delusion (8-7) at Newmarket 1m flls hcp 0-85 (4) gf in Jun.
Rosslare (IRE) 8-1 (9-0) Smartly away, made all, hung left on bend 5f out, edged left to centre of course from 2f out, ridden and in command over 1f out, stayed on well, won at Windsor 1m mdn flls stks (5) gf in Jun beating Al Nofor (9-0) by 2 1/4l, 7 ran.
