The Masareti Kid returned to form two weeks ago and can follow up at the expense of Northern Rambler, Major Shark and Kiss Me Kate. The Masareti Kid was a dual bumper winner at Hexham for Alan Swinbank last year, but failed to open his account over timber when switched to Venetia Williams. However, it was a different story on his first outing for Geoff Harker at Kelso a fortnight ago, as the six-year-old, with the aid of cheekpieces, overcame a poor first circuit to gradually get into the contest and win nicely. The trainer felt that something was hurting his new intake early on, and certainly would not be running him again so quickly if something was still amiss. He gets the chance to prove that that effort was no fluke and gets the nod. Strictly at the weights, Northern Rambler could turn the tables, as Mary Reveley's charge was only a length and a half behind in third at Kelso and gets a three-pound pull. He looked well held though and may be again. Major Shark seems to be going the right way judged on his excellent second at Cheltenham for his new stable, while Kiss Me Kate has barely seen the racetrack in three years. She had her supporters though on her first outing for two years at Warwick last November, and should be noted in the market. On recent form though, The Masareti Kid looks the answer, providing the sheepskin aids are left on.
