Verdict

CHIEF BUCANEER is selected ahead of Checklow and Minnis Bay. George Charlton's charge ran in a decent bumper by Catterick standards last time out and was far from disgraced. The winner of that contest is well thought of and was tried (without success) in the Aintree Champion Bumper next time up. Checklow was useful over middle distances on a similar surface and if he can get his act together at this game, he has the raw ability to succeed. Minnis Bay equally has shown ability on the level and must therefore be watched in the market. The Magic Bishop has a likeable pedigree though has not progressed. Bucephalus has been well held in his British starts. Cornish Castle's sire is Mizzen Mast so he should have few excuses on the surface. Regrettably he looks to be of modest ability. Hooked On Line represents the combination of Warren Marston and Pam Sly so a market watch is advised. Chief Bucaneer has shaped with ability and has been found a suitably weak opportunity to strike.
