A trappy affair in which NAUGHTY DIESEL is the very tentative recommendation ahead of Hazy Oaks and Daarth. The seven-year-old has put up a couple of reasonable efforts at Catterick and Sedgefield under similar circumstances and with James Halliday taking off 5lb; he holds relatively strong claims in a field where there is plenty of deadwood. Hazy Oaks represents a yard that have had a very good season. A watch of the morning market moves is strongly advised. Brendan Duke drops Daarth in grade. The trainer appears to have had trouble in working out a correct trip for him so this half way house suffices. Tim Vaughan's runners are always respected at this level so Great Tsar will be on many shortlists. Miss Cruisecontrol won a seller on the flat for John Best though has shown little for namesake, Jim. Cosmetic was worryingly tailed off on his latest start and has been consigned to the basement grade as a consequence. Pugnacity is inconsistent but Dianne Sayer's mare has won on the surface previously and while 2lb higher than her Sedgefield victory, there have to be obvious claims at this level. Luce Bay returns to hurdling having made no impact over fences. Naughty Diesel is selected in a race that will take little winning.
