The ground has come right for Stone Cold, who likes it a bit quicker, and he may now be capable of ending a run of three successive seconds. The Inchinor gelding has a fast ground win at Market Rasen under his belt from last season. Supporters might just be a little concerned that he is generally kept to two and a half miles, but he has run well over further before in defeat and the ground will also help him to see out the extra three furlongs. One who will definitely stay is Red Rampage. The Richard Guest-trained gelding landed a three-and-a-quarter mile chase at Carlisle last time. However, despite his obvious well-being most of his good form, including that win, has been on soft ground and he may find them going much quicker here. For that reason he is overlooked. The same might be said of Winchester. By Gunner B, you would not expect the gelding to be able to produce his best on anything quicker than genuine good ground, though he is not entirely dismissed. Untried on this faster ground before, we will not know for certain until we see him in action, but we will side with history and suggest that he will not be seen to best effect here, especially giving weight away all around. With Sue Smith's stable in such good form, Gottabe cannot be ruled out, while Random Harvest is better treated now than for some time but a doubt remains concerning the form of horses from Mary Reveley's yard.
