In depth

Verdict

Many eyes will be trained on I Cried For You. James Given's charge still holds an entry in the Champion Hurdle and the simple truth is that he will have to win this to stand any feasible chance of making it to the Festival. Tunstall was an impressive winner on his hurdling debut earlier this term. He has gone off the boil since but the return to Wetherby could reawake his enthusiasm. Middlethorpe has ability but is frustrating to follow at the moment. The jockey bookings suggest he is favoured to Golden Chance. Diamond Max shaped encouragingly at Haydock Park on debut and was showing enough to show that he could score in this grade. A chance is taken with Maniatis. Formerly a smart performer on the level with Amanda Perrett, he has reportedly schooled well at Micky Hammond's and if fully wound up, he could be a very useful tool over timber.
