In depth

Verdict

Typically competitive stuff for the televised race of the day. Denarius looked to fully appreciate the step up in trip at Sedgefield last time out and is sure to be a warm order today. He had Silvertown in behind but today is much more competitive and it may pay to look elsewhere. Stamparland Hill caught the eye as a novice to follow last season and if back to his best, could run well. He is best watched until the green shoots of recovery begin to sprout this season. Backcraft would not want any further rain. Tony Dobbin presumably had the choice of mounts from the stable and he has looked elsewhere. Orchard Fields and Needwood Spirit conversely would not mind any further moisture. Ireland's Eye rarely runs a bad race but his stable are in wretched form at the moment. The value could lie with an each-way steal on Noshinannikin. Mick Easterby seldom leaves Wetherby without a prize and this gelding is a confirmed course specialist. The stable sent out two winners at Newcastle last week and the handicapper has at least given him a viable chance on this occasion. Blow Wind Blow must be watched in the market. McManus and O'Neill were narrowly foiled on Saturday with a monumental gamble at Catterick on Claude Greengrass and this may well be the horse to rescue the lost monies.
