Verdict

A good way to start the card at Warwick, with a plenty of the 22 declared runners at the overnight stage arriving with solid claims as unexposed types. She's Our Native and her stablemate In The Frame, along with Kercabellec and King Solomon all hail from yards that have enjoyed good starts to the winter campaign and have to be considered at least as short list material. However, Houseparty has improved out of all recognition since switching codes and he gets the vote as a value selection today. The Jim Old-trained five-year-old created a pleasing impression when he had the likes of Albuhera and Wait For The Will behind him when making his debut over timber at Chepstow at the start of last month - before a finding the stamina-sapping hill at Towcester to be his undoing when sent off as the warm favourite in a similar contest at last time. That outing may just have come around a little too quickly for him and the longer lay-off for this should see him in a better light. The son of Grand Lodge reached a rating of 93 from a relatively light career on the Flat, and, as he showed at Chepstow, he has retained his willingness to get involved in a scrap. He was doing all his best work at the finish on that occasion and, as he obviously needs a little time between his races, he is given the benefit of the doubt this afternoon. Danakil and the ex-Irish-trained Bringontheclowns are others from less fashionable stables that could give the principles plenty to think about. But the overall profile of Houseparty gives him the edge as the best bet at the likely prices in a tricky race to kick-start the day.
