In depth

Verdict

Torphichen is selected (assuming he is still eligible to run in maiden) as the one to side with in the finale. Street Devil and Limbo King are the best alternatives in a race lacking outstanding quality. Limbo King has been given a long time off since the last campaign and needs to justify the cost of the training bills. He has hinted at ability, though. And is no forlorn hope at this level. Street Devil should cope with the trip and, having shown flashes of style, he takes the eye as a potential spoiler. A market move in his direction would be dangerous to ignore. Crazy About You is also worth a mention, as she is better than she showed at Newbury last time out. It would come as no surprise to see her ridden with more restraint today. However, Torphichen really catches the imagination as a potential improver and, as Michael Jarvis has not out faced the son of Alhaarth with the level of his entries this week, the mount of Phillip Robinson is very difficult to ignore here.
