never a factor
tracked leaders and keen, weakened over 1f out, eased
mid-division, ridden and headway on inside over 1f out, all out to lead line
led, ridden over 1f out, headed line
keen, saddle soon slipped and pulled up 4f out
with leader, ridden 2f out, weakened final furlong
in touch, ridden 2f out and weakened
slowly into stride, never a factor
tracked leaders, driven to chase leaders 3f out, one pace
slowly into stride, ridden 2f out, never a factor
reared start, in touch until weakened over 1f out
always in rear
in touch, weakened over 1f out
in touch ridden over 1f out to chase leaders, kept on under pressure
This should not take that much winning, and so Welsh Cake is taken to defy an absence, with Another Genepi and Tender The Great seen as the main dangers. Quite a few of these were out of form when last seen, and although Welsh Cake is one of those returning to the fray, she at least rounded off her last campaign in some sort of form. Amanda Perrett's filly ran a fine race in defeat when second over a mile at Bath in September, and prior to that was successful over today's trip at Folkestone. She goes well on fast ground and starts the season not badly treated, so with Eddie Ahern in the saddle, hopes are high that she can come back with a bang. Another Genepi made all at Wolverhampton the time before last, but was not able to dominate from her wide draw there next time. Back over seven furlongs, she should give a good account along with Tender The Great who has had a little break. The rest are really hard to fancy unless the market speaks kindly, and Welsh Cake makes most appeal.
