In depth

Verdict

Dunkerron catches the eye here ahead of Baron Aron and Son Of A Gun. A good winner from Saturday's Ascot scorer Genuine Article at Plumpton last time, the selection was racing there for the first time since joining Philip Hobbs. He had previously won a seller over hurdles but, given the impression he left at the Sussex venue over the larger obstacles, is worth recommending to follow up. Irish import Baron Aron rates the danger. He fell on his chasing debut before winning at Ballinrobe, so he'll know his job on his first run in Britain. Sharp Steel won a handicap chase in July but is now 9lbs higher in the ratings and has been beaten since. Newick Park is well-in based on his form of two years ago but has lost his form of late and now returns from a 229-day break. Son Of A Gun is entitled to bag some money from his current mark, but Wot No Cash's win last time came in a Chepstow seller. How Ran On is the only course and distance winner in the contest and is only four pounds higher in the ratings than for his Newton Abbot win in July. He too is entitled to be competitive for the places given that he has won from higher marks, although that was upwards of two years ago. Overall, then, Dunkerron can give Richard Johnson another win.
