A Vendre was favourite for the opener at Ludlow on Thursday, but Martin Pipe will be glad that he gave the ex-Clive Brittain inmate an entry here. However, this race is a bit tougher and his debut fourth at Towcester might not be good enough. Magical Day has been ultra-consistent but always seems to find one too good, while Araf is taking time to get the hang of jumping. The last Mohican, a plater on the Flat, shaped well on his Fakenham debut but will do well to repel the challenge of the German raider Va Pensiero. The fact that Christian Von Der Recke is starting him off in this company suggests that he is hardly Triumph Hurdle material, but there is not a lot to be gleaned from his last of four in claiming company on his only start so far, in heavy ground at Maisons-Laffitte. What we do know is that he will be given every assistance in the saddle from Barry Geraghty, and in a weak event, should take all the beating.
