Kalou is selected to master Blue Leader and Sophomore in this weak looking affair. Kalou was successful over nine furlongs on the flat in Germany two years ago but has not added to his haul since coming over. He has been in action on the all-weather recently though, finishing third to Spy Gun at Southwell 10 days ago, so will lack for nothing in fitness. Any market moves, given his very shrewd trainer, will add to our confidence in the five-year-old. Blue Leader belied an absence of six months when scoring at 20-1 in lowly company at Fakenham, so a break of a couple of months will not bother him. He took on decent company over hurdles last season and is one for the short-list. Sophomore ran up against Overstrand no less at Market Rasen in November, so it was a bit disappointing that he did not score at Uttoxeter next time. It is with no great confidence that Kalou gets the nod.
