In depth

Verdict

Bold Bishop lines up in form and can add to recent gains at the expense of Donie Dooley, Mister Felix, Native Ivy and Mon Villez. The last named has already been successful over fences in France and is expected to make a name for himself this season. He escapes a penalty for his conditional jockeys win at Folkestone and should not be discounted. However, Bold Bishop has to be the selection after his effortless win at Market Rasen on only his second outing over timber. He had chased home the highly-rated Bourbon Manhattan the time before at Aintree, and it must be remembered that Jonjo O'Neill's charge was fourth to Liberman in the Champion Bumper last March. So, he is a high-class recruit to hurdles and should be up to defying a penalty. Donie Dooley also has to shoulder a weight rise after his impressive victory over the course and distance in June, but he has been absent since. Mister Felix was beaten by a decent animal in Eric's Charm at Hereford and should improve for the run, while Native Ivy, a bumper winner here in May, is best watched on his hurdles bow. All in all, it should pay to go with the class of Bold Bishop in the opener.
