In depth

Verdict

Kavatcha is the pick over Bertie May and County Zen, with Pop and Ballamusic worth noting for the future. Kavatcha made the most of the fact that he was receiving the four-year-old allowance when making a winning debut at Taunton in January, but he is related to plenty of winners, can only improve, and looks all set to give David Pipe yet another winner. Bertie May also did nothing wrong when scoring on his Wincanton introduction in January, but probably did not beat much, and is worth taking on under his penalty. County Zen has been placed on his last two starts, while Pop caught the eye staying on behind the useful Procais De Thaix at Newbury. Fontwell third Ballamusic will benefit from the step up in trip today, and we cannot preview a bumper without mentioning a McCain debutant as the stable always seems to produce at least one useful sort per season, so Rightway Star is paid lip service. Kavatcha can prove the answer though in the finale
